Abbey Lincoln

Abbey Lincoln - vocals
real name: Anna Marie Woolridge
born: 06-Aug-1935, Chicago, IL, USA

Abbey Lincoln had been singing in dance bands in her home town as a teenager before moving to the West Coast. She changed her name to Aminata Moseka in 1975. After several years of inactivity, she had a comeback in the 90's. She has just released a new album, called A Turtle's Dream, which has been produced by Pat Matheny.

The All-Music Guide writes about her:

She is among the most striking vocalists ever from the standpoint of delivery, and few can match her way with lyrics and moods.

She also appeared in several films, like

  • The Girl can't help it (1957)
  • Nothing but a man (1964)
  • Mo' better blues (1990)

Abbey Lincoln wrote the lyrics for the song Little One I'll Miss You. I don't know if she ever performed this song on one of her albums.
