30-Jun-2004 - Leipzig, Moritzbastei Bobo In White Wooden Houses
(tickets 10 Euro (8, reduced), sold out (300-400 people), 70 minues) The band was greeted frenetically and was clearly surprised and moved by this. However, they did not make any announcements or statements regarding news, nor could anything be bought. The band was introduced and there were a few comments on some songs. Mostly they were songs from Cosmic Ceiling or Alaska, plus a few new ones. The band played rather dynamic, sometimes they rocked, but there were also softer passages. Bobo's voice is still real great, though she was a little off here and there. The older "Houses" songs came across a little unusual, but then, it's been a long time and it's a new band. Needs some getting used to. The Alaska songs had it easier. The totally new songs weren't too bad, a few were even quite good ("Breaking The Waves", "Tears"). Something to look forward to. Special comments on some songs:
My faves (because the were performed best) were: Pearl Drops Rain, "Skate Away" and Ever the Wind. Conclusions: The new band did a good job, but there's room for improvement. I regret to say that none of the new ones was particularly remarkable. Quite a nice concert, but it still needs working on, regarding the interplay, selection of songs, and a few more songs would also be nice. Setlist:
25-Nov-2004 - Jena, F-Haus5 Bobo In White Wooden Houses
Due to the great demand the concert was moved from the Rosenkeller to the nearby F-Haus. They opened up at 21:00 and the hall actually filled up slowly to more than 100 people. Shortly after 22:00, things moved fast all of a sudden. The background music still played when Bobo and her band entered the stage. After an intro, Bobo opened with Furious Sun from the Passing Stranger album, followed by Pearl Drops Rain. Next our ears were provided with some new songs. "Breaking The Waves" and "Skate Away" might actually show up on next year's new album, at least she announced a new album in this context. Next came Perfect Silence, which has recently been covered as a dance single by Blank & Jones. Bobo and her band played a guitar version of this. They continued with "Remote" from the so far unpublished Alaska album and the new song "Sister Sadness". They continued with the Cosmic Ceiling album. Three songs, Beloved, Travel In My Mind, and Cosmic Ceiling, all clad in guitar sound. The main part of the concert ended with the new songs "Overflow" und "Gold Dust Woman"". Of course there was an encore. Bobo opened it with Sailors Bride followed by "Road To Move" and finally the long awaited Hole in Heaven. After a brief break Bobo returmed with her guitarist. They played a cover of the Fleetwood Mac classic "Dreams" in an acoustic version. She kept the best for last: Ever The Wind in an a capella version, it gave me goose bumps. This concluded the concert at about 23:30. A great mix of old and new songs and a very relaxed Bobo, who was obviously happy to be back on stage. I highly recommend trying to catch her live, if you can. It's really worth it! I really hope she finds a record company for her new album and the CD can soon be bought everywhere. I am seriously looking forward to it! The setlist:
